Any make up can cause break outs if it isn't washed of at the end of the day or if it's expired.
You have to look for products that are oil free, noted on the label.
Talc. I'd suggest using bare minerals/bare escentuals. Go in and have them do a sample for you, its amazing stuff. No only does it prevent acne but it heals it after a while. I've seen it.

  • What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?

Hello, I'm not a native english speaker, but i was reading a recipe and it said you should have both baking powder and baking soda, and I've always thought they were the same thing. So what's the difference? What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?
Both baking soda and baking powder are leavening agents, which means they are added to baked goods before cooking to produce carbon dioxide and cause them to 'rise'. Baking powder contains baking soda, but the two substances are used under different conditions.

    Baking Soda

Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate. When baking soda is combined with moisture and an acidic ingredient (e.g., yogurt, chocolate, buttermilk, honey), the resulting chemical reaction produces bubbles of carbon dioxide that expand under oven temperatures, causing baked goods to rise. The reaction begins immediately upon mixing the ingredients, so you need to bake recipes which call for baking soda immediately, or else they will fall flat!

    Baking Powder

Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate, but it includes the acidifying agent already (cream of tartar), and also a drying agent (usually starch). Baking powder is available as single-acting baking powder and as double-acting baking powder. Single-acting powders are activated by moisture, so you must bake recipes which include this product immediately after mixing. Double-acting powders react in two phases and can stand for a while before baking. With double-acting powder, some gas is released at room temperature when the powder is added to dough, but the majority of the gas is released after the temperature of the dough increases in the oven. What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?
Baking powder is a combination of baking soda and cornstarch

How do you clean your makeup powder puffs?

I break out usually and recently bought loose powder that has its own powder puff. But I'm afraid to use it too much because I don't know how to clean it properly to use again. I only used it once now and before I use it again, I want to know how to clean it properly. Thank you so much guys. How do you clean your makeup powder puffs?
clean them with water or makeup cleaner. How do you clean your makeup powder puffs?
don't ever wash the puffs because they have a lot of germs on them! dermatologists say to replace your puffs at least once a month! Same thing with your mascara!
wash them plenty of hot water and soap, or buy those disposable ones at the drugstore.
I don't clean my makeup powder puffs because there are micorbs that live on them after a while. I throw them out and get new ones at the store.
I swish them around in a mixture of water and a mild dish detergent like Ivory . I continue to swish and squeeze gently until the traces of the makeup are gone. Then dip in alcohol and squeeze and allow to air dry. Unless it is a really great puff, it may be simpler to but some disposables.
I wash my powder puff and makeup sponges with shampoo. I wet the puff or sponge, and with a little dab of shampoo I rub it in and it gets cleaned. I do this until the water runs clear.

    I use warm water.

I wash my sponges about once every week and a half, or when there are they are completely covered in makeup.

I put it on a paper towel and let it airdry, after squeezing the excess water out.

I would replace those sponges once every three to four months, or when they get really dingy and look old.

So far, I have not replaced any yet!

Is there any difference between baking powder and baking soda?

I have a bread recipe which requires ';baking soda';,can I use baking powder? Is there any difference between baking powder and baking soda?
    YES there is a difference.

NO, you can not use baking powder in place of baking soda.

Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda, starch, and at least one slightly acidic compound such as cream of tartar that works as a leavening agent in baking by releasing carbon dioxide when mixed with a liquid, such as milk or water.

Baking soda is pure Sodium Bicarbonate, a naturally occurring white crystalline substance with a number of household uses. When it comes to baking, sodium bicarbonate is the leavening agent that helps turn out light, airy breads and cakes of great heights. Is there any difference between baking powder and baking soda?
    YES
    yes
Baking Powder is a composite of Baking Soda, (oops) cream of tartar, and Alum.
    There sure is.

My sister used to bake cookies a lot, but was also unclear on the difference. Once, when we were out of one, she used more of the other. I think that was the day she invented the pan cookie.
As the previous answers have already pointed out, baking soda and baking powder, while related, are 2 different additives, and they are not generally interchangeable in a recipe. (with one exception, so read on!)

Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate, while baking powder combines sodium bicarbonate with an acid (usually cream of tartar) and, often, a starch, which serves as a drying agent.

Because baking soda is a ';base'; substance (as in acid/base), and baking powder contains an acid, the two substances create a different chemical reaction when mixed with the other ingredients in a recipe.

If your recipe requires baking powder, you CAN NOT substitute baking soda.

If your recipe calls for baking soda, you can safely substitute baking powder, but you'll need more baking powder, and the taste of the food may not be exactly what you expect. (Baking powder is about 1/4 as strong as baking soda).

Hope this helps - there really are no particularly good substitutes for these 2 products. Fortunately, they're both extremely cheap, last for quite some time in the pantry, and are easy to find in any halfway decent grocery store.

    Good luck!
Baking is chemistry. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE them for each other. It won't work.

Baking soda is bicarbonate of soda. It can be used alone or with baking powder to leaven breads and cakes. It is activated by mixing with an acid, and it makes LOTS of bubbles.

It's great for lots of things besides baking, like cleaning, using in bath salts, adding to loads of laundry to freshen and help clean, add it to litter boxes to keep odor down, all kinds of things.

Baking powder is more complicated, and can include baking soda, but it doesn't always.

    Here is avery good explanation...

    Hope this helps.
I don't think so....I just think it is that people tend to call them 2 different things!
    YES there is a difference.

and yes u can use baking powder.

if possible put a pinch of ';baking soda'; with the baking powder because the recipe requires it, just in case.

The Ethanol (alcohol) is encased in Cyclodextrin, this is easily dehydrated into a powder, then tabletted. It dissolves into an aqueous solution, and when there is a pH change (in your stomach) it releases the alcohol and breaks down into starch, which then breaks down into sugar.

Good Luck! ;)How do I get blue bleach powder out of a shaggy white carpet?
If it's still in powder form.. DO NOT add water or any other liquid.. Quiet isn't really an option here.. You are going to have to run the vacuum to suck up the mess! Make a few passes and empty out the canister or change the bag and go over it again and again.. A shopvac would be good for this as well... That's the only solution that I can see in getting it completely out of the carpet.. But, it's not quiet...

This might help ya!Is it ok to substitute baking powder for baking soda in a cookie recipe?
no. you could substitue baking soda and cream of tarter for baking powder, however.
No. Both baking soda and baking powder are leavening agents, which means they are added to baked goods before cooking to produce carbon dioxide and cause them to 'rise'. Baking powder contains baking soda, but the two are used under different conditions. Soda needs to react with moisture.

Baking powder cntains a drying agent and cream of tartar. Baking soda by itself lacks the acidity to make a cake rise.

You can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one part baking soda. But you cannot substitute for baking soda.
i have substituted it b4 and it didn't turn out very good.

i don't know why that is but if the recipe calls for it

i would stick too what it tells u.
I think I saw what you're looking for in this free recipe ebook.
you definitely cannot substitute!! they are completely different. if you dont have either and need them for a recipe, try using self-rising flour instead because it automatically has both in it.

What are the proportions of the spices for making a curry powder ?

Curry Powder is based largely on four spices: coriander, cumin, fenugreek and turmeric, with the possibility of many other ingredients being included. Although most westerners are not familiar with Ajwain Seed ( similar to Celery Seed ) and Kalonji ( also known as Black Seed ), I want to incorporate these heal giving seeds in a curry powder mix to use while Im driving on the road through cold Newfoundland, to put in my vegetable soups along the way ! I also want to use cinnamon, cloves, ginger, black pepper, mustard seeds, hing and cayenne. What are the proportions of the spices for making a curry powder ?
I am a former chef from Canada, I still lived in Toronto ON, and it can be a matter of taste, I mix a blend of my own, I buy alot of whole spices and grind them in a old coffee grinder, in Newfoundland you many have trouble getting the really exotic ones, I also grind my own garam masala, and I use up to 20 spices for Indian curry powder and slightly less for my west indian types.

I actually fry the Ajwain seeds, black mustard, nigella and curry leaves with my aromatic veg, if you add them to the curry powder you will not get the same effect or flavour. Where possible get whole spices, I know there are Bulk Barns in St Johns and go to the Walmart or Zellers in town and get yourself a coffee grinder, toast all the seed sand other whole spices, then grind them fresh when making the curry's.

I would stop using pressed powder and opt for a light liquid foundation and a little loose powder. Putting those two on seperately make a world of difference! The powder makes the foundation look less cakey and softens the whole look of the face.

But, the key to makeup looking good is start with a good skin care regimen. If you have healthy skin, it shows with or without makeup.

Good question. Jeans need to be washed. Check the powder label.
If it has bleach it will definitely say so on the package. If it just says washing detergent then it doesn't have bleach. Good ones would be Gain, Fab, Tide for colors.
bio has bleaching agents and non-bio doesnt
Washing powders never contain chlorine bleach. And the one's that contain color-safe bleach say it on the box in big letters.

Just buy some Gain. You don't really need color-safe bleach for jeans ... really color safe bleach is just for really dirty clothes, or your mixed white/brites... you know: like a white shirt with the red sleeves. That is what color safe bleach is for.
well i would suggest ariel, ariel,. daz is for whites because it makes them all white.all the best

Is it good to put baking powder in frying batter?

By adding baking powder it allows batter too poof up.

By adding corn starch to the batter will keep the batter from asorbing the grease. Is it good to put baking powder in frying batter?
It's perfectly possible, but instead of adding another reactant (the powder), substitute the same quantity of fizzy mineral water or beer for up to 60% your current liquid ingredient and you'll get a lot better 'puff' in your batter as well as extra flavour, with the beer in particular.

    Hope this helps.
yes as long as it is not alot
Yes, but not much. It will give the food a bitter taste. I would rather substitute a pinch of soda. Or, better, substitute Perrier water or ginger ale for the batter liquid. The yeast in them make the finished food light and crispy.
yes as long as it is not a lot.
I'd use baking soda instead. Baking soda works instantly, while baking power takes more time to puff the batter.

What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?

Well in my attempts to bake I often get the two confused. Are they different? Can they be used interchangeably? What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?
Baking powder gives food lift or leavens it. It is heat and moister activated. Used in biskets and the like. Baking soda is sorta like baking powder's side kick. Baking powder cannot function in an acid environment so the ol' sidekick comes in and neutralizes the acid. (Baking soda is a basic compound) They work well hand in hand but baking is an exact science and deals with formulas. That's why I'm not good at it. I'm more of a saute cook (mix and match).

  • Is Korean red pepper powder different from red pepper powder from a Chinese super market?

I can't tell if it's the same powder.

I saw a bottle of red pepper powder from the spice section of a Chinese supermarket, but I can't tell if it's the same as korean red pepper powder.

Are they made from different peppers? Are they all the same?Is Korean red pepper powder different from red pepper powder from a Chinese super market?
Alex is correct, I am a former chef from Canada and worked in Asia, I do alot of cooking with Korean product, and powder chili's like chili pastes will vary in taste, and with pastes,Korean ones are hotter, smoother and a bit saltier, with dried powders, they vary mostly in heat levels, I bought a bottle like yourself one time, and failed to look at the label, now I love spicy food, but could not understand the molten temp of my dishes until I read the label, and found it was not chinese but Thailand bird chili's are 4th hottest in the world. So be careful how you use it, do not mistake it for the Mexican style or you will find your food inedible from the heat, I use hot sauce like most people use ketchup, I have arthritis and find the active ingredient in all chili's in my meals helps, the only thing I do not use it or chili flakes/powder/pastes on is my morning cereals. Is Korean red pepper powder different from red pepper powder from a Chinese super market?
Yes, they likely come from different chili peppers since korean peppers (kochu) are different from the kind used in Chinese cooking (tien tsin, for instance). Chinese cooking also makes use of cayenne and thai chili bird peppers, although it can't be clear what a generic bottle of red pepper powder from a Chinese supermarket will be from. If you're looking to make korean dishes, go with the korean style. Not all red pepper powders are the same.

Baking soda + liquid acid (in the recipe) ---%26gt; leavening

Single-acting baking powder = baking soda + a dry acid. When the liquid ingredients are mixed with the dry ingredients you get leavening --OR-- when the product is heated you get leavening.

Double-Acting baking powder = baking soda + 2 dry acids. When the liquid is added you get leavening --PLUS-- when the product is heated you get leavening.
I have attached a link to your answer....

    This is an awesome website.....
A leaven is anything that produces bubbles in dough or batter, causing baked goods to rise. Most breads rise because of yeast, which works by fermenting sugar, which in turn produces carbon dioxide. Baking soda and baking powder are used to leaven quick breads, cookies, and muffins. Baking *soda* is alkaline and reacts with acid to create carbon dioxide bubbles that become trapped within the batter. It's sometimes used in batters that contain acidic ingredients, like buttermilk or molasses. --If there's not enough acid in the batter, the recipe will instead call for baking *powder*, which combines baking soda with one or more acidic salts. When the baking powder becomes wet or sufficiently hot, the soda reacts with the salts and releases bubbles
baking powder does not have salt in it baking soda does. if the recipe calls for baking soda you can use baking powder and add salt but not the reverse.

How to make sure a black powder revolver is safe to shoot?

Ok I aquired a black powder reolver (colt navy replica in .44) that i guess was a kit. I took the whole thing a part, replaced some internals and filed down the grips and brass in some parts to make it fit. What kind of checks can I do to make sure this is safe to fire? How to make sure a black powder revolver is safe to shoot?
This is what I would do.

Go to a gun range with the following equipment...

The revolver. Black powder. Caps. Balls. Long cord. Several sand bags (shot bags filled with silica sand). Safety glasses.

Follow directions and load only ONE CHAMBER of the gun with a light black powder load. Cap it, and put it on and under the sandbags with the barrel facing safely downrange. The cord is already tied to the trigger. Cock the hammer. Stand back, wearing your safety glasses the whole time. Pull the cord gently. It should fire. Do the same with another cylinder. After two successful firings, you will know that it is safe. How to make sure a black powder revolver is safe to shoot?
This is a rather simple gun. I'd just make sure all the screws are tight, cylinder locks up correctly in line with the barrel, everything functions, etc. Just give it a good looking over and it should be ok.

Remember not to load it very hot being a brass frame and a navy. 20 grains should be the max.

    Edit

Don't have a gunsmith look it over - it's not needed. If you bought it used, 100 dollars was too much to pay. And you're going to spend 1/4 that at the gunsmith?
Find a gunsmith that knows blackpowder stuff and have him look it over.
Have a qualified gunsmith check it out. Ryan E it's illegal to call yourself a Doctor when you are not (felony).!!!!!
Doc Hudson gave you good advice. I would add a couple of small points.

First, the thing that locks the gun together is called the wedge. Make sure that when the barrel is seated against the frame the wedge is tight. It should go all the way through both sides of it's slot in the barrel, but the head of the wedge should not be in contact with the barrel.

Make sure that the two little pins on the front of the frame are a reasonably close running fit to their holes in the barrel.

With the gun assembled, check the gap between the cylinder and the barrel, it should be between .005'; and .025';. This gap is there to allow the cylinder to rotate.

Cock the gun and look to see if the bolt is reasonably well engaged with it's notch in the cylinder. Check this for all six of the notches.

Now one more thing, the brass framed guns will fall apart with a lot of shooting. Brass is somewhat soft, and so the base pin will start to loosen. The recoil shield will also pound up. In my experience, these guns are good for about 200 shots, and then they start to have problems. I personally only use the brass framed guns to shoot blanks.
The best advise I can give is to tell you to make sure the chambers align with the barrel. The easiest way to do that is to place a .44 caliber button type cleaning jag on a cleaning rod, patch it if the fit is not tight. Then insert the rod into the barrel of the assembled revolver and make sure the jag enters the chambers without hitting the rim of the chambers. That will tell you whether or not the thing is properly timed.

Then I'd suggest you fire some proof loads.

Pour as much FFg or FFFg powder as the chamber will hold under a round ball, grease the chamber mouths with crisco, heavy gun grease, axel grease, or some other heavy lubricant. Strap your revolver to a tire, fence post or other heavy object, co-ck the weapon and use a long lanyard (25 feet or longer) to fire the revolver, preferably while you are safely behind a stone wall, a clay bank, truck or other object that will prevent you from being hit with flying metal if the gun lets go. You will of course have tomanuallyy co-ck the revolver for each shot.

After you've proof tested your revolver, you should keep your loads pretty modest. As I'm sure you are aware, the Model 1851 Colt was designed for the .36-caliber chambering and was never offered by Colt in any other chambering. Since it is a .44-caliber brass framed revolver, if you routinely use heavy loads it will shoot loose and get out of time. You will note that not only is the cylinder rebated so the .44 caliber cylinder will fit the .36-caliber recoil shield, but the frame has a step cut into it to allow the larger cylinder diameter needed toaccommodatee the six .44-caliber chambers. This cut-out weakens the frame and causes the frame to stretch under the pressure of heavy loads.

And always seal the chamber mouths with grease or a felt overpowder wad to prevent chain firing.

    Good Shooting,

    Doc
You can't. Guns are super dangerous and also they can kill. You should turn yourself in to the police before you hurt anyone.

I use to use a protein powder about 30 years ago that had no flavor, taste, smell or any kind of sugar or sugar subtitute in it. It was made out of egg shells and this powder had the look and feel of all purpose flour. I am having trouble finding it, does anyone know of something like this that I can purchase at a Vitamin or Health Food Store? What is the best foundation, powder you can find at wallmart or the drugstore?

And good as in the best one at one of these places, compared to the best you could find period? Anywhere, if money was no object, or just your more expensive favorite? But basically, what is the best foundation / powder at the drugstore, or department store and can you describe how well they work? What is the best foundation, powder you can find at wallmart or the drugstore?
I couldn't live a day without my Nearly Naked Makeup from Almay. It has an SPF of 15 and a buff of 140. It really makes my pores look smaller and covers blemishes, and feels practically weightless. I got it at K-Mart for a little less than $10.What is the best foundation, powder you can find at wallmart or the drugstore?
The foundation I use is Maybeline Dream Matte Mousse, it blends very well, covers pimples/blemishes well, and though is about $10 for a small container, it lasts very long. It also stays on your face for a long time. It can be found in drug stores, and in my opinion, is much better than the foundaion that you get at Sephora, MAC, MaryKay, and Clinique. The container looks like this:

physicians formula mineral loose powder. it covers everything but looks like your wearing nothing. its made for sensitive and acne prone skin so it wont clog your pores.
Well I use the CoverGirl powder/liquid foundation. It comes in this brown rectangle thing. It's a little over 6 dollars and covers your face really good. If you get the color that matches your skin then it looks like you're not wearing anything. If you have acne or red spots it covers them up really good. It does not make your face greasey or cakey. It's what I use. It's right at wal-mart. good luck!

  • How can I prevent my powder foundation from flaking?

I just bought Benefit's hello flawless powder and it worked perfect for a couple hours. But, I just noticed after awhile my skin around my mouth started to flake. My skin is dry already and it was flaking a little before I put the product. Is there anything i can do to solve this? How can I prevent my powder foundation from flaking?
Since your skin is dry, you shouldn't use powder foundation. Instead try cream or liquid. This post explains different foundation textures. It helps you pick the foundation for your skin type. Also, you should always moisturize before you apply foundation. Even if your skin is oily.

http://www.audreydao.com/2009/03/10/diff鈥?/a>How can I prevent my powder foundation from flaking?
Before applying makeup, take a toothbrush (one you don't need for teeth brushing) and put some lotion on the end and lightly brush the areas that get flaky to remove any dead skin before you apply your makeup. Two to three times a week, exfoliate your face by mixing some sugar with a small amount of oil and gently rubbing it around your skin in circular motions. Rinse really well so you don't break out and make sure you cleanse and tone your face thoroughly afterwards!!! This will help remove dead skin also and prevent flaking. Also, mix your foundation with your moisturizer to make a tinted moisturizer, which will help keep your face from drying up. In terms of long-term solutions to your dry skin, you need to start using skin care products specifically designed for dry skin. The cleansers, toners and moisturizers for dry skin help prevent flaking and provide your skin with the amount of moisture that it needs. You really need to use a foundation and concealer meant for people with dry skin, so make sure you look for a moisturizing, anti-aging or creamy foundation next time you go to buy. Don't use too much powder either-powder absorbs any oil on your face, which can contribute to dryness. If you must apply powder, lightly dust it all over, focusing on the places where your skin gets oily. Good luck!
you can try putting on a mosturizer on first then out in the foundation or put sum liquis foundation on first jus a little bit of it and then the powder foundation. but honestly i would get tru blend mineral powder foundation from cover girl. although if u have dry skin like the girl said itz gona dry ur skin even more so i would suggest liquid for u
exfoliate. its important to get rid of the dead skin cells first.

What's the difference between powder & liquid laundry detergent ?

POWDER - use for whites, it contains somewhat stronger detergents. It will fade dark fabrics more quickly.

LIQUID - for cold water and darker colors. It is a different type of detergent, and it's not quite as good at whitening or stain removal.

Fabric Softener - contains animal fats, and builds up on fabrics, causing a white film on dark clothing that's been washed a lot. What's the difference between powder %26amp; liquid laundry detergent ?
Personally I think the liquid dissolves better in all temperatures. What's the difference between powder %26amp; liquid laundry detergent ?
The liquid is easier for the machine to expel out when it is on spin cycle. That is what I was told anyway. Thanks for 2.
    Liquid or Powder Laundry Detergent?

The type of laundry detergent you use is a fairly personal choice. Most detergents are very effective, and most of us end up using what is on sale, or what we are used to. The only things to consider are whether or not you have hard water, or if you are regularly laundering particularly dirty clothing, or if any one in your family suffers from allergies due to fragrances and perfumes. Finding the detergent that works best for you is usually a case of trial and error of the products that are in your price range. Detergents that are highly inexpensive are usually of a lesser quality, however, and you may not end up saving any money by purchasing them, as you will need to use more with each load. ...:)
As for cleaning nothing but powder has a tendency to clump in the wash and gets on your clothes unless you put the clothes in after you mix it in the water. Boils down to its easier and less mess with liquid
One is powder and one is liquid.

Powders work better in warm/hot washes.

    Liquids work in all.
powder stays in you washing weres liqid dose not it washs out
Ones Powder and ones liquid. I personally like liquid.
Powder may also leave traces on clothes, but liquid not.Liquid leaves fabulous scent and remains longer.
Powder has fillers that you really should not be using.

I toured the Doe Run lead recycling plant, and the powder waste was sent off to detergent manufacturers.

I would look up everything on the net before I would put my family clothing in it.

I am a nurse and worked for a Dermatologist. The best thing is to make sure you have a good sun hat(one the baby cant pull off) and a sunscreen of 30 SPF or above. What is the best baby powder and sunscreen for hot weather?
Aveeno makes a baby powder for sensitive skin that is great. I'm an adult, but I wear it. :o) The fragrance is light and feels a lot cleaner than typical baby powders.

As far as sunscreen, make sure you apply it on your baby (and yourself) frequently, every hour or so. I wouldn't get an SPF smaller than 30. Since your baby has sensitive skin, the only way to make sure your child isn't allergic is to test brands. Just rub a small amount on your baby's skin and check for a reaction.

A lot of people don't recommend putting sunscreen on a child that's younger than 6 mos. old because sunscreens aren't tested on children that young; however, no studies have shown that it's bad for them. Some do recommend a ';physical'; sunscreen--one that sits on top of the skin, the white zinc stuff comes to mind.

And of course, keep your baby protected from the sun and heat with hat, umbrella, stroller, etc. Make sure both you and your baby are getting lots of water throughout the day, especially as the climate gets hotter and drier, it will be easier to get dehydrated.
I'm not sure about the baby powder, but for the sun block they have these really cute spf 30 hats, and baby banz sunglasses have 100% Uv protection and the glasses the baby wont be able to get off and I doubt they would even bother him/her. my son keeps them on no prob. they have a band that goes around his head and they are really really cute. The sun block if you plan on going swimming with they baby Coppertone kids (its safe from 6 months and up) has a spf 50 uva protection waterproof sunscreen, my baby has sensitive skin and he can use it. and if you aren't going to do much swimming Baby Aveno has a sunscreen that is spf 55 and its for sensative skin too. I hope you and you family have a WONDERFUL vacation!!! Lucky baby exploring the world at such a young age!!!

    hope I could help

Not sure about the powder or sunscreen but be sure to have a HAT on your baby at all times! And, they make SPF clothing. I've seen it at Target.

    POwDER!!!!!!!?

i want a pressed powder.. right now im using covergirl clean pressd powder and i dont feel that i am getting enough coverage.

    thanks

oh and btw. i dont want powder foundation either, just powderPOwDER!!!!!!!?
i dont know if this is a pressed powder but clinique powder works great...i just dont kno if thats pressed powder sorryPOwDER!!!!!!!?
physicians formula is awesome. i've been using it for about 10 years now. i've tried everything, and i keep going back to it. there just isn't a better powder out there. i'm a makeup artist and no matter what makeup i use on someone i always finish with physicians formula, it really is that good.

you want the one that looks like a kaleidoscope.
If in the Uk , go to Superdrug - they have 2 really cheap ranges (Collection 2000 and Miss Sporty) that sell a large variety of powders and have some of that new mineral stuff too...
well i can recommend u pan-cake from maxfactor, but u can only use it for one special night cause is strong but its pretty efective other then that, but a little too expensive is teint idole from lancome
pressed powders dont last long..only stay on your face for like an hour if your lucky! try foundation. it lasts all day n keeps ur skin glowing and healthy.
maybeline has a new one, its powder very similar to the matte mouse.

What's the difference between powder laundry detergent and liquid?

there is really not much of a difference except the liquid is concentrated and the powder is cheaper. I use the powder tide. You have to let it dissolve in the running water before adding your clothes or you could get powder clunks. the liquid is more convenient.

According to the Martha Stewart website, ';Powdered detergents work best for hard water and for removing mud and clay. Liquid detergents are good for taking out grease, oily dirt, and stains, and work very well as a pretreatment.'; That's not just Martha's opinion -- we saw this assertion echoed all over the Internet. In addition, most say that powder works better in hot water. Powders are usually less expensive than liquids, but liquids are more popular with consumers, many of whom say liquids are not as messy. (Interestingly, powdered detergents are much more popular in Europe.) In comparison tests, we didn't notice much performance correlation between powdered and liquid detergents, however. A common complaint is that powder formulations can leave residue on clothing. For best results with both powder and liquid laundry detergent, manufacturers recommend that the washing machine be filled with water and detergent before clothes are added (this step might be more essential with powdered detergents). In short, most say it doesn't matter much whether you choose powdered or liquid detergent. According to Good Housekeeping magazine, however, one advantage of liquids is that you can use them to pre-treat stains. What's the difference between powder laundry detergent and liquid?
one is powder, and one is liquid. KIDDING. i find the powder doesn't always dissolve, so, in my opinion, it doesn't work as well. however, the powder is usually less expensive and lasts longer.

edit: holy crap, rachel -- i can't believe you had so much of an answer! HA. nice. What's the difference between powder laundry detergent and liquid?
some years ago, I had a repairman tell that the biggest part of his work came from buildup of detergent. So I've used liquid ever since. Don't know that there's any difference in how clean they get clothes.
    No there's no difference.

You want the powder to dissolve before you put your clothes in. So it becomes sort of like the liquid stuff anyway.

How can I keep my powder eyeshadow from fading away quickly?

I love the smokey eye effect, and I always apply it, but after a half an hour it's already starting to fade. By two hours, it's barely noticeable anymore. I never touch my eyes while it is applied, and I'm not in any windy areas. How can I keep my powder shadow looking fresh and new all day long without constantly having to re-apply it?How can I keep my powder eyeshadow from fading away quickly?
A few tricks of the trade to share...

You must use some sort of base to keep your eye makeup looking fresh for hours. This can be in the form of an eyeshadow base (such as Clinique's Touch Tint). The base will keep your eyeshadow from creasing, wearing off and will help pop the color and prolong the wear (typically up to 8 hours). All you need to do is apply a thin layer of the cream and let it dry (which takes seconds) before applying your powder shadows.

The other option (which I love for doing deeper, smokier eyes) is to color the entire lid with a kohl pencil. You can use just about any shade you want, though something in a nude or taupe will be least likely to change the color of your eyeshadow. This has amazing staying power and really livens up the eyeshadow. (Note: when you apply the pencil you are literally coloring over your entire lid. It's not necessary to be ';neat'; as you then smudge it in with your fingers.)

Hope these tips help and you have eye makeup that lasts hour after hour after hour :)How can I keep my powder eyeshadow from fading away quickly?
I would suggest buying an Eyeshadow Primer before putting eyeshadow on.

It helps the eyeshadow stay in place so it doesn't crease.

My favorite one is Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer.

You can find it in Sephora, Ulta, etc.

It's $16, but it's really worth the money!
You need to use a primer first. This makes the eyeshadow stick to the lids better.

If you don't want to buy anything, try using a little lotion on your lids.

  • How do you apply loose powder and not make a mess?

I recently switched to Everyday Minerals makeup. I have never used loose powder ever! I have used it a few days now. Every time I apply my makeup with the brush, I end up with powder in my hair and on my shoulders. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can apply the loose powder without making a mess. Thanks! How do you apply loose powder and not make a mess?
Yes i use the same makeup - Everyday Minerals. What you have to do is just sprinkle a bit onto the lid (only a tiny bit) and just twirl your brush in the lid so all of it goes on the brush and then tap of all excess powder and then just keep buffing it onto your skin untill its well blended .... also buff it up near your temples and jawline so you dont look like your wearing a mask and blend it in well. Hopefully it wont go all over then. xxxHow do you apply loose powder and not make a mess?
Make sure that the main product is in the container and not above the sifter. Then put a big powder brush in the small amount of powder above the sifter (if it doesnt come with a container that has a sifter-purchase one) When you pick up the loose powder on the brush, tap the handle against the top lip of the container to get rid of the excess that is sitting on top of the bristles. If you don't do that it will likely go everywhere. Also, if you apply it quickly after applying moisturizer or foundation it will apply onto your skin more than flying off into the air.
I have been using mineral makeup for 1 year now and I love it. Use a large powder brush (with a long handle). Dip the end of the brush into the powder the turn brush over and tap it once on the counter. This distributes the powder into the brush and you can easily polish the minerals into your skin with even distribution and no mess!
It should have come with a dvd...but you keep the container closed flip it so some of the loose powder gets on the lid, reinvert it so it is up right, open and swirl your brush in the powder on the lid, and tap the brush on the side to remove the excess powder...That should help termendously!
Cover your front with a medium sized towel (from shoulder to shoulder), blow on the brush prior to applying to your face and blend, blend, blend. I have also used a sponge to apply loose powder using the same method.
Try puritycosmetics,co,uk. It is really good!
Pinch it in your fingers and rub it all over. That's what I do.
    use a fluffy brush

This is hard to answer as you don't specify what you want to use it for and what you consider a small fortune. There are excellent repros of civil war muskets available in .58cal for $500-1000 depending on model and manufacter. What is the largest black powder rifle I can find without spending a small fortune?
Cabela's has a 72 cal double barrel. It does cost a small fortune though. Worth a note, you can shoot round balls out of a black powder shotgun. I believe a 12 gauge is around 69 caliber. Accuracy would suffer out of a smooth bore, but our ancestors were able to get game with them.

What is the best washing powder in the UK that makes your clothes smell nice?

I've been using cheap wasing powder for years and it makes my laundry clean but it never smells fresh. can someone recommend a washing powder that makes my clothes smell really fresh and clean? thanx. What is the best washing powder in the UK that makes your clothes smell nice?
    Ariel !!

Thats the best !!What is the best washing powder in the UK that makes your clothes smell nice?
I use Dreft for my coloureds and Persil for whites, towels, work shirts etc. Woolite for delicates

Love the smell of Dreft and how it really looks after your fabrics

Persil has a lighter scent. Used to use Fairy non bio instead which I really liked the smell of but when I changed the washing machine to a cold fill you really need to use a biological powder to benefit from the energy saving cycles so hence now Persil.

Fabric conditioner really helps but make sure it is one that will compliment your detergent. Too many conflicting strong smells is not nice.

I personally really don't like Bold. I bought it once and used it a couple of times and it was so strong scented I could smell it still on the machines rubber seal for weeks after. Ended up giving the stuff away as everytime I smelt it I felt physically sick. If I smell it on peoples clothes it seems to trigger something in me that I start to gag and want to vomit. I have never had such a severe reaction to any other product before but bold is really strong.

To start with I would recommend trying Dreft.
Hi I bet it does make your clothes smell nice but because you are used to the smell of the powder on your clothes you wont be able to smell it.

I thought changing the washing powder would make my clothes smell like other peoples, as you can smell the powder on their clothes and when the clothes are getting washed however when we us the one we use we can never smell it.

I have to use non bio and thought that could, be why so we got surf an bold etc and that didnt make the difference to how the clothes smelled no matter what one we used, and I think its just because its in our own house. etc

We just started using nice smelling fabric condtioners and they did the trick and leave clothes really really soft.
If its the smell you're talking about and not the cleaning(yur powder seems to be the job) then you need a fabric conditioner. This ensures your fabrics are left soft and smell lovely. The new 'comfort' tropical range make clothes smell really fresh.
Carry on using your cheap washing powder but use some Comfort fabric conditioner. There are loads of lovely scents so look around for ones on offer. I love the Comfort Creme conditioner in the winter and something lighter and fresher in the summer.
There is only one washing powder available in the UK, I forget the name but it is almost impossible to get and the supermarkets sell out as soon as it comes in.

Everything else is a detergent nowadays
i have to be careful because smells start off my asthma, and i find alot of powders are really strongly scented like bold and persil etc, the one i find the best is fairy, its leaves clothes smelling really fresh without a strong perfume
Doesn't matter what powder you use - machine rinses all traces out of it anyhow! Use a concentrated fabric softner instead - and plenty of it!

I have the same 'thing' as you - love the smell of fresh washing!
I love the smell of Persil washing powder. But to be fair, if you add conditioner such as Comfort or Lenor they will make your washing smell nice and fresh. And they come in several different lovely scents. Hope this helps
it not the washing machine that makes your clothes smells nice it what washing powder and conditioner that makes your clothes smell nice
Asda`s own brand lavender %26amp; cottonflower. Great washing results and a gorgeous fresh smell that lasts ages.
The new Bold White Diamond %26amp; Lotus Flower or carry on using your normal soap powder but add Lenor's Black Diamond %26amp; Lotus Flower Fabric Conditioner. There both great honestly....
i use ariel concentrated power liquid, the smell lasts for ages...%26lt;^%26gt;%26lt;...
    Ariel.
There all made by the same people out of the same ingredient.
i use comfort (concentrate) that makes your clothes smell nice
i like bold because its got fabric softener in it.it works out quite cheap.
    surf tropical
    fairy non bio
    Bold.

Can you substitute whey protein powder for flour when baking?

I recall reading that you can do this when you're baking something. Has anyone ever tried this, and if so, how'd it work and how did it taste? Can you substitute whey protein powder for flour when baking?
    No no no

You can add a SCOOP of whey protein to your baking. But make sure you do it with heavier items like breads and muffins, not anything that's delicate or tender (like pastry and cakes)

Protein toughens baked goods. Different flours use different amounts of protein (bread flour has the most, pastry the least).

So if you add protein in the form of whey, you will either end up with a denser, chewier item. Or you have to take away protein by using a 'lighter' flour. Can you substitute whey protein powder for flour when baking?
I can't believe the sheer amount of disinformation in these comments. It is the other way around about the value of whey. Was a by-product of cheese industry, discarded or given to animals. Whey protein now is in higher demand than cheese protein (casein), and cheese itself. Report Abuse

You could, but it wouldn;t taste the same or even rise the same.
One of the bigger waste disposal problems in the food industry is getting rid of whey.

If they could simply haul it to a nearby bakery, they surely would. They don't.

Consequently, I think you've got your hands on a really bad idea.
Whey protein (mainly casseine) is a product from milk. nothing to do with flours. It contains rich amounts of protein. Flours contain only a small part of different proteins depending on the flour type.

You can susbtitute it by whole powder milk (milk is where whey comes from, it is a part of it ). Powder milk has more protein concentration than normal milk. . It wont be the same, but it will work. Also add some extra tbspn baking powder for better leavening.
It would be bad because Whey and flour both have different tastes and consistencies.
NO NO NO! Whey protein powder is entirely different from wheat flour, or any other flour for that matter. Whey is a milk product, hence it's high protein content. It simply wouldn't work and it'd taste like hell.

Try Resolve. If that doesn't work, try a mild mixture of water and ERA laundry detergent. I never had gunpowder in my carpet, but ERA did take motor oil out of one of my favorite skirts.
Ok before my husband posted his Yahoo question/answer, I googled the following and it sounded even weirder than the question he posted...

Yes it would be in the food isles, near the hot chocolate mix.Can you get malted milk powder at walmart, and if you can where?
Dont know about Walmart but, I just saw it today at Target on the food clearrence shelves for like $2.50. The Carnation brand I think.
Man, the best Malted Milk powder is at ice cream places...If you can convince a manager at say Dairy Queen or whatever your local ice cream place is, then its quite a score! When I was 16 that was my first job, and I loved malted milkshakes, my manager would let me buy a large packet of the malted milk powder. Or try contacting Sysco, I think they deliver alot of supplies to those places. I think the malted milk powder at Wal-Mart or whatever tastes like crap.
yes, wal-mart should have it. Look near the hot cocoa, nesquick, etc. If it is not there check the ice cream toppings. A lot of people like chocolate malts....I'm one of them! :D
If not walmart, just about any grocery store. It's usually either by the cocoa mix or in the baking aisle.

    Hi, Linda

Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles, so I don't using powder to cover my acne, it is not a good idea.

But the effectiveness of safe Acne Treatments has been studied extensively by many international organizations and research institutes.

Unfortunately, this research is often not published in a suitable way for consumers to be able to compare the different Acne Treatments available on the market. In fact, the lack of source citations on the Internet is a little bit scary.

Most acne products available today only treat blemishes that you already have, without helping your skin prevent more from forming. This can lead to frustrating and costly efforts.

The Acnezine Solution is not just another topical acne treatment product. It is an entire skin care management system that finds the source of your acne and not only heals the blemishes you have, but also treats future outbreaks that you don't even see yet!

    * Works for adults %26amp; teenagers suffering from mild to moderate facial or body acne

    * Eliminates spots, pimples, redness, pus, blackheads %26amp; whiteheads

    * Fast and effective acne cure from the inside out

Acne is caused from imbalances and impurities within the body, people with severe acne also tend to have lower blood levels of vitamin E, and that's why we treat the problem an internal cleansing treatment that goes right to the source and fights acne before it even begins.

How long can Whey protein powder be used after official expiry date?

Hi guys, I had got some whey protein a while back and it expired this year in March. A few mates of mine say that it usually lasts more than the printed expiry.

Do you think it would still be ok to have those proteins till the end of this year? How long can Whey protein powder be used after official expiry date?
You have to be careful with stuff like that. Whey protein is technically a dairy product - a byproduct of the cheese making process. While some powders just lose their potency over time, whey protein may actually go ';bad';. Honestly, since you can get high quality protein much cheaper by ordering it in bulk on the internet, you might as well not take the chance and get some fresh stuff.

Here is where I get my whey protein. Its high quality and chemical free and I can get it in small enough tubs that it doesn't go bad before I can use it up.

Somebody once told me that's too many and then it dawned on me perhaps that's why I had to mix it up in a bucket and then scrape it into a few glasses using a putty knife.
Are you talking about unsweetened cocoa powder? If so, you need to use a regular teaspoon with a regular size glass of milk. But, you have to mix it in the blender and sweeten to taste.

If the chocolate powder is with sugar etc, then use a tablespoon in a regular glass of milk. Make sure you mix it good. You may still want to use a blender.
4-it's the best-heaping teasponns that is in a normal glass-add 2 more for a larger glass........
For a regular glass, 2 LARGE spoonfuls. For a taller glass, 3 is great.

I am planning a first-day-of-school prank and am making sure no one will get hurt. I just want to make sure that I cant hurt someone, just get some laughs. Thanks. Can you leave cocoa powder out of a chocolate cake recipe?

If you can, do you need to replace the cocoa powder with something else? Can you leave cocoa powder out of a chocolate cake recipe?
Yes, but you will need to replace it with something like ';baker's chocolate';, chocolate syrup, melted chocolate bars or chips or even hot chocolate/cocoa mix if you want the cake to be chocolate flavored. They also make a chocolate extract...but if you don't have cocoa powder it's not likely you'll have that either. Can you leave cocoa powder out of a chocolate cake recipe?
that's where you get the chocolate flavor from so, no, you shouldn't leave it out.
yes but it wouldn't be chocolate cake any more.

Would have to add another flavour like ginger, vanilla, lemon and then it would be a ginger cake, vanilla cake, lemon cake!
It probably wouldn't be a good idea, it would be very blah, and of course it wouldn't be a chocolate cake then.
Check out this free cooking E-book, it might have what you're looking for.
not if you want a CHOCOLATE cake

How can I keep powder bronzer on my face?

I use a powder bronzer, and it seems like every time I rub my face, the powder comes off. Is there anything I should put on before I put the bronzer on?How can I keep powder bronzer on my face?
Of course you should moisturize first, but also apply a facial primer to your face as well. It works a lot like a paint primer; it basically helps the makeup go on evenly and it will *not* go away. lol. I use the face primer by Studio Gear. A little pricey but so very worth it.How can I keep powder bronzer on my face?
You can try using a gel bronzer instead or just mix a small amount with your moisturizer. Like everyone else has said, applying moisturizer first is very important to keep makeup lasting longer.
Moisturizer. Powder won't stick without any moisture.
I always put my bronzer on underneath my foundation, but on top of my moisturizer. After I've washed my face, I apply an spf lotion and let it set in for about five minutes so it sinks into any dry patches. Then dust the bronzer on and blot any excess with a bit of tissue. Then I do my foundation. It's a lot more subtle that way and isn't going to go anywhere.
Don't apply bronzer powder to bare skin for best results. Try translucent powder first, over foundation or moisturizer. Hope it helps!
use creamy bronzer and mix it with your foundation
I mix bronzer with moisturizer, so it absorbs better.

Also, benefitcosmetics has something called she-laq (sp?) and you put it on over your makeup and it becomes waterproof.
